Each year Canada Day seems to be turning out to be an even bigger holiday than ever! This time around, the long weekend in Toronto is solidly booked with great events. To kick things off proper, be sure to catch Quivering Virgin, Shankar, Metalogic, and the legendary Gus Till for a BLA event this evening. Gus Till released the long-awaited Bus debut last year (see my review) and has recently returned from stunning the crowd at the Gaian Mind Festival down in Pennsylvania last weekend. The reports were phenomenal, so we can expect a great show tonight!
The party continues immediately after the BLA event down at Cherry Beach. Shakti is organizing an open air event featuring Plan B, Sketi, Tyler, Rook, Lexicon, Jarek, and Scott Guy. Details here (bottom of the thread).
Perhaps a short nap is in order before the fireworks begin Saturday night at Ontario Place and Downsview Park. I’ll be playing out at Darkrave v.77 later on (1:30 – 3:00am), and you can expect some gritty high-energy tunes to keep you shaking deep into the night.
Happy 139th Birthday, Canada!

Magikal Intentions was a phenomenal success! The very first Metamystix gathering thoroughly realized our collective vision. Endless appreciation goes out to absolutely everyone who devoted months of their lives to the preparations, and all the people who came out and experienced the altered reality that we collectively manifested. Read onward to scope out some of the reviews and lovely photographs that were taken at our first intentional gathering. Continue reading the rest of this post »

Tonight is the culmination of months of effort by the newly formed Metamystix collective. Magikal Intentions, our first event, is set to be one of the most exciting of the year! I’m writing this one last plug before getting into the thick of it.
We’ve been calling Magikal Intentions an intentional gathering to highlight the amount of thought that is going into this production. What we are trying to achieve is a convergence of elements into a synergistic whole. The framework we are making use of is the idea of a storyline, which involves all aspects of environmental control (music, visuals, lighting, deco, etc) as well as character role-playing and certain special events which will unfold as the night progresses. For guidance, we are working from the concept of a “chakra journey”–an idea most commonly explored in the formative early days of authentic trance parties on the beaches of Goa, India. The goal is to completely transform the venue into a magikal forest grove for one transformative evening of pure experience.
Both of our headliners will be playing two sets; one each in the trance and chill rooms. Akhentek is a galactic traveller who has, for some time now, been based in the Elphinstone Mountains of beautiful British Columbia. He is heavily involved in the visionary gatherings that have slowly earned BC the reputation of being one of the most unique psychedelic scenes in the world. Furthur, a downtempo DJ from Montreal, will be on hand to provide his expertise in the chilling arts. He is the frontman for Ganesha, an organization that is planning the Samadhi Festival on Labour Day weekend in September. Not only will he be welcoming all of the travelers to our magik forest, but he will also be sharing more downtempo delights in the sunny chill room later in the evening!
There is, alas, one sad piece of news to pass on. Emil will be unable to play tonight, for personal reasons. Our thoughts are with you, Emil!
There is much more to say, but time is running short! I hope to see many smiling faces out there on the dance floor tonight!
