Ektoplazm + Facebook

Journal | August 8, 2007 | Updated: March 12, 2009 | Posted by Basilisk

Facebook: Better than crack!

Calling all Facebook users! I’ve made it simple to share content posted on Ektoplazm with all your friends. Below each post you will find a row of icons that light up whenever you hover your mouse above. The Facebook sharing icon is the one on the very far left; click on it, and you can instantly post an item to your profile and mini-feed for your friends to enjoy. If you hear a free release or DJ mix you enjoy, share it with this new feature!

I have also opened an Ektoplazm group on Facebook that I would encourage existing users to join. News, updates, free music notices, event listings, and other goodies will be cross-posted to this group.

Not sure what this is all about? Facebook is a smartly designed social networking web site that has recently become wildly popular in some areas of the world, surpassing MySpace and other similar services to become the number one web site in Canada. Toronto (where Ektoplazm is based) has emerged as the Facebook capital of the universe; one in ten residents have an account! Privacy concerns (the dreaded Big Brother/CIA connection) have been raised, so I am not about to advocate that anyone join the site… but if you’re already a member, I hope you will find the new sharing feature useful!

Update: Check out the Ektoplazm and DJ Basilisk fan pages on Facebook.

Update #2 (March 2009): I have removed the sharing service since it was not being used all that much. You can still share a link by copying the URL in the address bar to your Facebook profile.

Intriga

Producer Profile | March 14, 2010 | Posted by Basilisk

Intriga is a young musician from Helsinki, Finland, specializing in a playful, funky, uplifting, orchestral, intense, and highly experimental style of dark and melodic psychedelic trance. Influenced by old school Goa trance (Astral Projection, Hallucinogen), the classical sound of early Infected Mushroom, and contemporary producers Talpa and The Misted Muppet, Intriga began to develop his distinct sound in the late nineties, gaining exposure through free music portals such as Mikseri, Elixiria, and MySpace. Shortly after playing his first gig in Helsinki (Tsunami), Intriga travelled across Europe playing numerous parties alongside acts such as Lemurians, Miraculix, Kiwa, Squaremeat, Wizack Twizack, and Quantum Leap, just to name a few. Future plans include more live sets and free music releases (coming soon here on Ektoplazm).

Intriga currently holds membership in Unfair Funfair and People Of The Butterflies.

Nolax – Persistence 2.0

More Music | August 2, 2007 | Posted by Basilisk

Nolax – Persistence 2.0

02 :: Pareidolia 10:43
03 :: We Already Were On Mars 7:18
04 :: Androids Do Dream 8:23
05 :: Autofab 7:59

07 :: Lepton Head (Remix of Shakta) 7:09
08 :: We Are The Spoon 6:15
09 :: Silence Of The Drums 7:56
10 :: Aggression 7:45

Austrian producer Nolax (Christoph Mitsch) independently released his debut album Persistence back in February of 2007. After receiving an abundance of positive feedback from listeners around the world, Nolax returned to his studio to polish and tweak his creation. Persistence 2.0 is the result: a new version of the original release featuring additional bonus material and improved sound quality.

Persistence 2.0 is firmly entrenched in the old school revivalist movement. Nolax draws upon the Eastern mystique of mid-nineties Goa trance while composing fluttering cosmic melodies and luscious atmospheric panoramas. Nowhere is this more evident than in his remake of Shakta’s classic song Lepton Head, originally released in 1996. As a result, this album emanates a genuine quality that is sure to be appreciated by all fans of old school Goa trance.

Mainspring Motion

Free Music | August 1, 2007 | Released by  | Posted by Basilisk

Mainspring Motion
01 :: Amygdala - Oxylerator II (7:43)
02 :: Anakoluth - Vaporizing Glares (8:14)
03 :: ProSect - Tribalogic (Amygdala Remix) (7:06)

08 :: E-Mantra - Crop Circles (9:18)
09 :: ProSect - Dr. Ivan And The Mad Peyote (9:34)

Mainspring Motion is the second compilation from PAR-2 Productions, dually based in Japan and the United States. The theme of the release can be described as “timeless,” as expressed in the press release:

Time, evolution, progression. In the world of music, nothing is static. The passage of time gives us variations on themes, revives old forms, and gives us the tried and true. Time also brings listeners the unexpected, pushing the envelope and evolving into ideas divergent from which came before. PAR-2′s belief has always been that a storming track is a storming track regardless of style, content or age. Rather than focusing on the narrow boundaries of what’s “in” at the moment, Mainspring Motion is an exploration of many faces of psychedelic trance from its early days, to the present, and into the future. It is what it is, and it is what it isn’t. A good track does not degrade over time. In fact, as time passes we realize the excellent qualities of a production and can look back to see the truly innovative forms that shaped music going forward. Good music will always work well regardless of stylistic variations.

PAR-2 Productions initially released the 192k MP3 preview version of Mainspring Motion under a Creative Commons licence but has recently expanded this licensing to include lossless versions of the release as well. That’s right; you can now download Mainspring Motion for free in WAV and FLAC with the blessings of PAR-2!

MP3 Download | FLAC Download | WAV Download · Download count: 13,939.

I know just how much work has gone into this release as well as how much of a financial loss it has been for PAR-2. If you still make use of physical media, the CD version of Mainspring Motion is available for purchase directly from PAR-2 Productions’ web shop at the low cost of USD$10 including international shipping. Other web shops stocking this release include Saikosounds (International) and Psychedelic Garden (Japan). Should you enjoy the uncompromising creativity of this daring release, be sure to show your support!
