Infused with an original style and unmistakable energy, this album flows through dark and driving techtrance, quirky melodic full-on, and richly atmospheric progressive to arrive at an inspiring downtempo finale. Shakti: Fourward

Event | February 8, 2009 | Posted by Basilisk

Another year has passed by, and before we realized it, Shakti Collective is 4 years young!!!
We invite you to celebrate our anniversary with us and the special line up we have in store for you:

DJ SLATER
Tribal Vision Records / Czech Republic

Michal Smetana aka Slater started his DJ carrier in the late 90´s, spinning goa and psytrance vinyls at small semi-private underground events. At the beginning of 2001 he decided to establish a new crew with the objective of promoting own trance parties – this was the beginnings of the Tribal Vision promotions group.

Tribal Vision has been slowly getting engaged in more and more activities connected with the trance music, focusing mainly on a new wave of progressive and minimal sound. In 2004 Slater together with his friends started their work on the first Czech progressive label and by the end of the year, Tribal Vision Records was born and slowly establishing itself as one of the leading labels on the progressive scene. Slater himself is working as label´s main manager, A&R and representative DJ.

Nowadays DJ Slater is playing a fusion of progressive house beats, electro and prog trance music, always including a lot of fresh new stuff from label related artists. He already performed at plenty of parties and festivals across the globe, including most of the European countries as well as gigs in places such as Japan, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia or South America; among them huge international gatherings such as Fusion, Voov Experience, Soulclipse, Antaris Project, Antiworld or Fullmoon Festival.

HIDRA
Attitude Recordings / Montreal – LIVE!

Hailing from Montreal, Gabriel was born in an igloo. Then, he has been producing electronic music for a decade. Performing under various monikers, he created a strong following on the Canadian scene. His Hidra project is more focused on the progressive side of electronic music, with minimal and electro influences.

Ekoplex on CBC Radio 3 and last.fm

Journal | August 11, 2008 | Updated: September 7, 2008 | Posted by Basilisk

I have been trying out a number of online music portals in the weeks leading up to the formal release of Ekoplex‘s full-length album. The first of these is the New Music Canada program on CBC Radio 3, a mainstay of satellite and Internet radio in Canada. Previously, psytrance was not listed as a genre in their system–but my request to have it added was approved. Since then I have uploaded every track Ekoplex has released on Ektoplazm; check out his profile here. Whether or not this will draw new listeners our of the woodwork is unknown, but I sure hope that we reach a few people this way. In a country where there is little exposure to psytrance in the mainstream every little bit helps!

Ekoplex can also be found on last.fm, a popular social networking site centred around music. Listen to Journey Of The Turtle or check out the main Ektoplazm label page. I’m also running a psychedelic trance group on the site if you’re interested in joining. I expect that as the site grows there will be more value-added content available; at this stage I am only planting the seed.

Eclipse Festival 2008 In Pictures

Photos | April 28, 2009 | Posted by Basilisk

Eclipse Festival 2008

Eclipse 2008 was a tremendous success! The Tech Safari crew exhibited an unparallelled level of organization with the “solar edition” of Canada’s most well-established psytrance festival. This year the event returned to the Bonnet Rouge, a gorgeous campsite on the shore of the river Gatineau in the Outaouais region of Quebec. Musical highlights included Simon Posford’s performances as Shpongle and Hallucinogen, Vibrasphere, D-Nox on Sunday afternoon, Ekoplex on Friday night, Tapwatr, DJ Seb, Rikam vs Yann on Monday morning, Pheek, DJ Solar, the “furious percussion duo” of Blandilo, and the Indian dub fusion of The Dreamtree Project. As in previous years, the sound system was world-class: extremely powerful yet crystal clear. Altogether it was an excellent festival experience.

Visit my Flickr gallery to see 116 of my best photos from Eclipse. Facebook users are invited to check out my Eclipse 2008 gallery to tag and comment on the 60 photos I uploaded there.
