Sun Station

Label Profile | May 20, 2010 | Posted by Basilisk

Founded in Saint-Petersburg in 2005, SunStation exists to provide a solid new media platform for the development of electronic music talent in Russia and beyond. Their sound is diverse; although psytrance is the focus, SunStation also promotes new school Goa, progressive, downtempo, IDM, and other more experimental styles of music. The label takes a flexible approach to releases: many are free to download in MP3 and lossless formats whereas others are commercially-available CDs. With releases by Pan Psychic, Manifold, Koan, Glooex, and Luminexia, Russian artists are heavily emphasized in their discography. Pan Psychic’s album We Are Not Who We Are has the distinction of being one of the most successful free psytrance releases ever made–with downloads of more than 35,000 copies.

Luminexia’s Ultraviolet at Electric Woodland

Video | September 25, 2008 | Posted by Basilisk

SunStation posted an awesome video featuring footage from Electric Woodland, an event they held in Saint-Petersburg at the end of 2007. The soundtrack showcases a full-length piece by Luminexia entitled Ultraviolet. This will be released on the Mind Control EP, a free download coming soon from the SunStation netlabel. Here is the video:

Buffoon, Schizoid Breakaway, and Mukti

Journal | September 24, 2008 | Updated: November 2, 2009 | Posted by Basilisk

The Serbian netlabel Psymoon Records recently released a compilation by the name of Buffoon. Most of the artists involved are unknown to me but you might recognize Ka-Sol, Vegetal, and Wizack Twizack in amongst the others. The sound is naturally dark but fairly organic at times–some might call a few of these tracks rather forest-like. Buffoon is two CDs in length and available in MP3 and WAV format direct from Psymoon Records.

Next up, Unwashed Records returns with Schizoid Breakaway, another compilation that is likely to wake the dead. Their last bunch of releases have scraped at the upper threshold for psytrance tempos and this one is not likely to be any different. If you like it fast, hard, and crazy, this might be for you. Schizoid Breakaway is available in MP3 format direct from the label.

Finally, all you darkpsy fans might want to check out this 152 BPM promo track from Mukti entitled “Upon A Star.” It is fully mastered by Kri of Shapestatic. If you like it, you can download a few more of Mukti’s tracks from his web page. Feedback would be appreciated!

Jikooha Launches “Revolution Spaceship”

Journal | September 24, 2008 | Updated: November 7, 2008 | Posted by Basilisk

Revolution Spaceship is the third full-length album from Jikooha (Ektoplazm/MySpace profiles), a Japanese production duo specializing in new school Goa trance. Released by Panorama Records, this album is infused with the cosmic energy and spiritual authenticity that characterized the golden age of psychedelic trance. Revolution Spaceship isn’t merely a tribute to days long ago, however; Jikooha’s approach is uniquely their own. And, as an added bonus, Filteria provides a scorching hot remix to complete the album.

Not only is Revolution Spaceship a great release (check out the reviews on Psynews), but Jun and Shimodi have also been very supportive of the free music movement. Their work is featured on Golden Vibes 2, Golden Vibes 3, and Chromatic Circuitry (coming soon from Ektoplazm). If you enjoy Jikooha’s music and appreciate how generous they’ve been with it, I encourage you to order Revolution Spaceship direct from the Jikooha web site.
