January 2009 has been another big month for free music with many promos erupting out of the datastream. Here are a bunch that didn’t make the grade but might still be of interest…

Mexican Progression is compiled by Haka and Zolarium and features an assortment of Mexican progressive psytrance projects brought to you by Uxmal Records. It is available in MP3 and WAV format.

If you’re into dark ambient, try out the MP3-only Selbst-innesein split album by Deadness and Odium32 (known to darkpsy fans as Nino AKA Kanibal Holokaust).

Phasetech has been quietly releasing some of his old material on his own eponymous netlabel. Three singles are available for free download from archive.org. If you enjoyed the Momentum Vol. 1 compilation you will want to check these out as well.

And for all the darkpsy zombies out there, never fear: your overlords are working overtime. This month we have Psyshamaa’s Old Patterns EP (released on 2to6 Records), Perfect Nightmare (from Psychotic Viridis Records), and Finger Puppets (from Twisted Minds Records).

Xamanist is Sérgio Ribeiro (Serguei), a Portuguese psytrance producer born in 1977. Since childhood he has played guitar, bass, and synths, so it is no surprise that he became interested in composing electronic music after discovering trance at Boom Festival in 2000. Following this life-changing event, Sérgio joined forces with Syul to form Swan X-1. Together they performed live psytrance across Portugal until disbanding in 2007. With this experience as a foundation, Sérgio established the Xamanist project to concentrate on developing his own original style of psychedelic trance.

Xamanist aims to blend the old with the new, balancing darkness with light and melody with rhythm. Expect to hear classic Goa trance influences mixed with progressive arrangements and full-on energy, creative flow and storytelling, and a high degree of psychedelism!
