Top Ten Psytrance Bookmarks on Delicious

Journal | August 30, 2009 | Posted by Basilisk

Delicious

Delicious is one of the world’s most popular social bookmarking sites. Out of curiosity I looked up their top ten psytrance bookmarks. Here they are (minus a bunch of pirate MP3 blogs):

  1. Philosomatika, a popular Internet radio station, with 339 bookmarks.
  2. Psyshop, the well-known mail order shop, with 210 bookmarks.
  3. PsyDB, DJ Core’s incredible database of psytrance releases new and old, with 150 bookmarks.
  4. Goabase, a German party portal and community, with 136 bookmarks.
  5. Ektoplazm, free music portal and psytrance netlabel, with 116 bookmarks.
  6. Psyradio, another Internet radio station, with 93 bookmarks.
  7. Psynews, an online community and informal home to a lot of old school Goa trance fans, with 86 bookmarks.
  8. Isratrance, another big forum, with 65 bookmarks.
  9. Triplag, a radio station and record label dedicated to the dark side of psytrance, with 58 bookmarks.
  10. Psychedelik, a French radio station with 57 bookmarks.

What can we learn from this? People really like Internet radio, that’s what! It is also interesting to note what sites are not on the list. Consider these top-ranked psytrance sites and their respective bookmark numbers (in brackets): Australiens (25), Saikosounds (24), Cytopia (22), Mushroom Magazine (18), Boom Festival (17), Chaishop (15), and PsyMusic UK (4). From what I know these are some of the biggest psytrance sites in the world. I wonder why they aren’t bookmarked more often? Of course, there is nothing remotely scientific about this cursory study of Delicious bookmarking habits! This is merely food for thought (and, perhaps, discussion).

What do you think? Are there any other popular (and legal) psytrance sites that haven’t been mentioned here?

All Stars 2009: Stage Setup

Last weekend the Shakti and Neuromantix collectives combined forces to organize a free open air psytrance festival in Southeastern Ontario: All Stars. I arrived without expectations but was immediately impressed by the awesome stage design (pictured above). Given that it was a small-scale event mainly attended by friends and family it was one of the most stress-free weekends I’ve had in a while, and for that I give my thanks to all involved. The sound system was perfect for the size of the event and the land–well, I found it to be the among most ideal festival locations I have been to in Eastern Canada. Let’s hope for a return next year!

More photos of the event are available on Flickr or Facebook.

Progressive Chart: August 2009

Journal | August 29, 2009 | Posted by Basilisk

Industrial Space @ Cherry St.

After playing four festivals this year–Sacred Earth, Entheos, Eclipse, and All Stars–I am gearing up for my fifth and final open air event of the season: Harvest. Barring any unforeseen changes to the schedule I will be playing the closing set at the psytrance stage–a perfect time for the techno/psytrance crossover style that I have been so into this summer. You can read a bit more about it in a recent post, Exploring the Borderlands of Techno and Psytrance, or hear it in action in my Eclipse 2009 set. Since I have done a lot more digging this month–unearthing all sorts of killer tunes in the process–I have prepared another chart listing 25 progressive favourites from recent weeks:
