Amygdala – The Sprawl

Free Music | Goa, Progressive, Techtrance | September 29, 2009 | Released by Ektoplazm | Posted by Basilisk

Amygdala – The Sprawl
01 :: Cognitive Distortion (126 BPM)
02 :: Oxylerator (Part 1) (132 BPM)
03 :: The Sprawl (132 BPM)
04 :: MetaMusic (132 BPM)
05 :: Tweakend (140 BPM)

The Sprawl features five songs by Amygdala (Andreas Riemer Christensen), a Danish producer inspired by physiological psychology, science, and cyberpunk. The amygdalæ are a set of almond-shaped nuclei buried deep within the temporal lobes of the human brain that are involved in processing memory and emotional responses. Designed for inner exploration of imaginary intergalactic science fictional futures, Amygdala’s music is influenced most prominently by early Eat Static, Transwave, System 7, and Koxbox. The resulting style can be described as old school, progressive, psychedelic and techy, but every song is its own story crafted to entrance and enthrall the listener. This release has been lovingly mastered by Akhentek at Ilum Studios, B.C., with design and photography by Basilisk.

  • bgrade says:

    Sounds great. Nice darkness without being darkpsy, and the ambient sounds are really spooky. Good for halloween sets I am thinking.

  • qa2pir says:

    Finally something intelligent and groovy.

    Nice!

  • qa2pir says:

    The brickwall mastering makes me sad though.

    Seriously, you guys need_to_stop doing that. It destroys dynamic which is a very important aspect of music!

  • swan vesta says:

    Now this is deep – all you people who love Intact Instinct/Funf D Das Signal/ and the like….this is what you’ve been waiting for!
    Thanks Andreas for making this incredible music for free x

  • FishX says:

    Deep, Dark and Tribal. I can definitely hear the early Eat Static influence (Abduction) on this EP. Absolutely Love it! Give me more!!

    This is pure festival music for big PA, this shakes the dancefloor, MetaMusic is a fucking fantastic and HUGE track btw !
    As FishX nailed , its Deep-Dark-Tribal this is pure festival music, with the old vibes and memories inside that i hope to have the chance to listen to a huge soundsystem on a festival someday
    All the best and thanx again

  • Anton says:

  • Basilisk says:

    About the mastering: some of these tracks are a bit older so we did what we could for them :) we’re always trying to improve in this department, so thanks for the feedback!

  • gutter says:

    In fact i can tell what you meaqn about the mastering, Meta music for example sounds over compressed unfortunately, still love the vibe and everything but the mix doest breath almost at all, same for cognitive distortion,, love the music, the only minus i found is the over compression

  • robot says:

    gracias tienen buen material
    good material(:
    good vibrations

  • w0dk4 says:

    sprawl kick my ass ! :)
    thanks for this album

  • MAM says:

    Loving the artwork, you’re doing good Basilisk, hope to see (and maybe hear) more in the future.
    About the mastering, i’ve done a little check on each track and, well there is a serious problem with the limiting process as the sound cuts up the same way along the frequency range (no multiband compression), resulting in hi-hats and fat synth being overwelmed by the bassline), or something like that.Cheers

  • Amygdala says:

    I think it’s about time I say thanks for all the nice comments and the ratings. I am bit overwhelmed by the positive reception of my doings, so thank you very, *very* much! I gotta hand it to Alexander for the artwork too – I am thrilled with it. About the mastering, I am very happy about that too. Knowing the pre-mastered material inside out, I believe that Akhentek has done a great job… So, big up!

    Keep an eye on http://www.amygdala.dk for more music – and thanks again!

    This album is terrific!!!
    Very techy yet psy, I’m loving it!!!

  • d2kx says:

    I really like it. I wouldn’t have liked it as a non-free release. Not because I don’t want to pay money or because of the quality, no. But with free music it’s a lot easier and engaging to try out something new you wouldn’t have bothered with otherwise, and I am finding lots of new and interesting stuff this way. Thanks to all people involved :)

  • GoaMech says:

    Love this music. It’s like slow goa trance.
    Does 2nd track has Etnica influence?

  • Whah? says:

    Sounds like a Juno Reactor song to me.

  • dj Inada says:

    This is the true 1999 – 2000 sound I was looking for. Amazing a new skool artist dares to make it! Grazy, sutlle, trance. A perfect blend for a good progressive track that doesn’t become boring afther two listening turnes! Well done: very talented and intelligent designed tracks. Great job.

  • Gamal says:

    Superb, the best that I’ve heard in a long time, It `s raw, rhythmic, fresh and super powerful. Amazing Crafting, man, thanx

  • dvilla says:

    This kicks ass.

  • Pluto says:

    Exactly as Inada said, it’s minimal, it’s progressive even if considered in a general term but it is not Dark guys, being a bit atmospheric does not inherit DARKNESS’S, it’s is pretty similar to Anakoluth yet Amygdala dips a bit of Goa like melodies, my god guys terms like dark and shit are killing our music, stop it!

    8/10, great release.

  • Psyentist says:
