Hi all, I look foreword to this party. I haven't been to a DR in ages and I missed the last Shakti event, it was too cold and my old bones hurt.

There better be some good music then! I am leaning in the same direction as the previous post, having the right progression is important, also from track to track and set to set. The psychedelic experience is a journey and I feel the music should reflect that. The night starts mellow, pretty simple and slowly progresses to something quite out of control, organic, rhythmic, always changing unpredictably, but with a persistent flow and beat, pushing you higher until you get there. Once you're there everything simply Is, there is no more wondering about, the music speaks clearly whatever it has to say.

I hope to see many of you on the dance floor.

Peace

Bas. First, thanks alot for the insight. Second, i dont mind dark psy. In fact, it kicks ass, if its balanced. Its just that the dark psy genre is cluttered with alot of noisey, annoying, repetative tracks with little or no progression. Maybe thats not true but thats what i heard enough of not only in toronto downtown parties, but at large international events, such as boom and voov festivals, for reasons i know not of. Thats why i tend more to rely on fullon and progresive for a fulfilling feel/vibe that starts you off somewhere and takes you somewhere else, with frequent and meaningfull transitions. But all that gives you the same type of happy melodic vibe. Thats when dark psy can come in and maintin that level of depth, but bring in down to a minor key, with more shadowy (not necessarily painful) effects to give it that dark essence fullon and progressive cannot usually provide. I always give dark sets a try, i know for a fact there are many i would love to hear. =)

Shankar and Quivering Virgin will probably play a nice mix of progressive house and modern techno in the downstairs area. Plan B and Ron Havok will likely cover parts of the full-on spectrum. Upstairs, Phink is known for playing the more friendly side of full-on (like some of the acts you list). As for myself, well... I'll probably end up playing a very dark set--but not just noise and pointless loops. Give it a chance!

Anyone know if the psy/goa that will be played is going to be "dark", non-melodic loopy screechiness, since this is a dark rave? Or will it be psy, sweetly melded with melodic progression and immersive fluidity, with a hint of attitude? I remember hearing psycraft, astrix, gms, ticon, eskimo, xerox & illumination, (and stuff that sounded similar), on more than a few occasions, but sometimes its just noise. Guess i'm just asking for a taste of what our psy-spinners have in store for us on Saturday. See you there.

January is usually the slowest month of the year but I know of at least one event taking place in February which I will post when I have the info (a Shakti event that I am playing at, from what I know). There is also the regular Wednesday night party at Neutral every second week if you need a good stomp session to tie you over :)

Isnt there a psy party earlier than this somewhere? I cant wait 2 months :((. Never seen the event calender so empty. Are organizers just tired after new years, or is the economy to blame?
Either way i cant wait till this party. see you there.
