I am not sure I understand the free music model completely. I can see that you offer albums for free and then you have an option of buying a CD. Well what if you could have a middle alternative to that, for example: what if I am happy with a digital download and I don't wish to buy a CD. Well what if you had a sort of "donation" (for the lack of a better word) option. I could choose how much I wanted to donate for a digital release to an artist, in return for say a lossless version of it(or not, or just donate for nothing in return). And then if I wanted to go all out and appreciate the nice art (which could be bigger and unfoldable and what have you) I could obtain the physical release. It's true that no one model is the end solution, then wouldn't the opposite be true - having lots of options could provide the flexibility versus the get or not get option. If an artist has a release for sale, it's clear that some profit is desirable. And it's great, the word of finance is open: moving out of a drug and/or roach infested ghetto, quitting the box stacking job, getting a new synthesizer. After all, those of us living in the cities have seen this business model for years. Artists standing in underground passages and metro stations have been giving us that option, you walk by if you are not interested, you drop a coin if it sounds nice, and sometimes you buy a CD if you are not angry at the world that day. Surely there can be absolutely no shame in that. If other musicians can lip sync and steal music then this is far from the end of the line. Just the new age digital version of it.
