An Awakening

Quotation | February 28, 2010 | Posted by Basilisk

“I think that my concept can fit with every culture because it draws inspiration and direction from a time of humanity when, no matter where you went, people were in touch with the Earth and the spirits of nature, the sun and the Moon, and all of the elements… and so, we’re delving to the same place and trying to bring the same thing forth–but with the technology of the 21st century, and in a way to appeal to the youth of the 21st century… so, I think that it fits.”

Goa Gil, sampled by Alien Mental in “An Awakening” from the album Mind Hack, 2007

INFOS:

ILL GATES: ill.gates is a well-known producer from Toronto Canada. His previous productions as ‘The Phat Conductor’ and co-productions with Robb G have made waves in the Electro House and Breakbeat genres, as has his work with Bassnectar in the growing crunky midtempo breaks genres. Past production work includes remixing the likes of DJ Dan, Myagi and Si Begg and has led to top selling tracks on Beatport and also a mention in URB as one of their ‘next 100′ top artists. His versatility is evident in his broad array of collaborations with reknowned producers like Robb G, Bassnectar, Meesha, Little John, Friction, Malaya, Stephane Vera and Canadian Hip Hop vocalist Masia One. ‘Autopirate’, covers a broad range of genres and confirms ‘ill.gates’ production values.

BASILISK: One of Toronto’s most dedicated DJs, founder of the Ektoplazm free music portal and netlabel group, purveyor of gourmet psychedelic and techno music, recently co-founded the group Drumlore, a new collective dedicated to shaking up the scene by unearthing fresh sounds from the underground.

ROLLIN’ CASH: Veteran DJ at countless events around Toronto and music festivals such as Harvest, and OM, the music of Mr. Cash has very special flavour, and you dont want miss the one-of-a-kind sound that Cash calls “a combination of roots dub/reggae and ol’school funk mashed up with stuff that i find relevant in todays world, like breaks, step, hop, grime, and downtempo.”

JONAH K: A local Producer and DJ specializing in a unique blend of dark, psychedelic dubstep and drum n bass infused with middle eastern rhythms and cinematic atmospheres. Jonah is currently promoting the release of his newest album, Dwaalicht, available now on CDBaby and iTunes.

GABOR: Another of our Toronto favourites, Gabor (aka Spazzmonk) plays a diverse blend of awesome music, ranging from dub n breaks to sweet-ass techno. Gabor has been involved with the Suma/OM festival crew for many events and recently was heard rockin rooms at the Burning Man Decompression, and Dream Scape parties.

dBOOM: A noted and oft named bass whore, known for whoring his bass up and down and all around. Co-founder of the Kismet Collective and ARCHITEXTURES resident, Davey never leaves home without bringing the boom.

SLAVA D: This man has been organizing jams for Toronto’s Psychedelic and Techno crowds for nearly 5 years, and has been producing music almost as long. This year he founded the Pocket Monkeys cru, and has been expertly reinventing and constantly re-working his own sound. His beats are tight and his music is intricately woven from 100% home-grown samples and original material.

HANS OHM: Always dropping the finest in melodious mid-tempo sounds from trip-hop and IDM to liquid drum & bass, head of Light Productions, and mastermind behind the ARCHITEXTURES nights, Hans gets around, and we’re glad for it.

T-MINUS: With a passion for great sound, T has been sampling Toronto’s underground for while, gradually expanding his musical repertoire. After co-founding the Pocket Monkeys in January 2009, he has been a resident DJ at the Pocket Monkeys parties and at ARCHITEXTURES, host of the wild events at Magnetawan, and was featured this summer at the Harvest Festival and the Burning-Man Regional 3-day Festival. BASSgators is his most recent endeavour. Expect solid bass and maybe a few surprises.

mc MAGNET (aka PapaDun): Long time funk-follower, events promoter, hype man, and connoisseur of the finest beats around town. Man with the golden mouth. Often attached to the golden sax. You know the man. If you’ve been to any good parties, you’ve heard the man. Just follow the funk…

Bechamel Boyz – Sauce Masculino

Free Music | February 27, 2010 | Released by  | Posted by Basilisk

Bechamel Boyz – Sauce Masculino
01 - Zykkelnykkel (145 BPM)
02 - Bechamel Boyz (145 BPM)
03 - I Love This Song (140 BPM)
04 - Daddy-Yo (Alpum Mix) (148 BPM)
05 - Lé Spacemodulator (145 BPM)
06 - Ferrari (146 BPM)
07 - Rabbit Humppa (feat. Dänkki J) (148 BPM)
08 - Monsieur Walaskala (145 BPM)
09 - Tosi Anssi (143 BPM)

The Finnish psytrance collective People Of The Butterflies returns with Sauce Masculino, the full-length debut of Bechamel Boyz, a “world famous boy band” that demonstrates the typical Finnish disregard for anything even remotely serious. It isn’t clear from the absurd promo text exactly who is behind this strange project (although Astroschnautzer appears to be involved). Their music is fat and groovy “spugedelic” Suomi-style psytrance with ridiculous samples and plenty of weird melodies. The caption on the back cover says it all: “First I was like WTF then I was like OMG LOL!” With artwork by Aapo. Psikaflex also has something to do with it.

Released under a Creative Commons licence for noncommercial usage. Check out the Morphing Psyche compilation and visit the People Of The Butterflies homepage for more!
