The following questions and answers are designed to address the majority of the requests that are sent to us via the contact form.

Is the music on this site legal to download?

Yes! The releases featured in the free music section have been gathered from a variety of content providers, all of whom have explicitly granted permission for people to download and share their work. Many releases featured here are licensed under the Creative Commons while others are simply posted “as is” and are for promotional use only. Check the details on each individual posting. All releases are readily available for DJ use in sets and mixes but other uses (film, advertising, commercial licensing) may be limited.

How can I have my music featured on Ektoplazm?

There are two options here. If you are looking to have your music released on the Ektoplazm netlabel then you will need to contact us to send a demo. If you already have a free release packaged and ready, send the links over for consideration. We are seeking high-quality releases featuring proper cover art, professional mastering (or equivalent), and the option of CD-quality (lossless) audio files. Please be sure to investigate Creative Commons licensing options for your release.

Where can I find out about psytrance events in Canada? What festivals would you recommend?

How can I have my event featured on Ektoplazm?

Event listings are free if you are hosting a gathering in North America featuring any live act or DJ featured in our profiles section. If your event features no one we work with or does not seem obviously relevant to what we are doing here at Ektoplazm then we ask that you purchase advertising space (contact us for details).

How can I get a profile on Ektoplazm?

Here on Ektoplazm we profile individuals and organizations that make a noteworthy contribution to the free music scene. We are also interested in profiling collaborators, colleagues, and friends. Sorry, but we are not open to posting profiles of just anyone.

How can I become affiliated with Ektoplazm?

Generally speaking, we are not interested in handing out affiliations. We certainly aren’t going to respond to emails out of the blue from people we don’t know. If we are already working together closely then an affiliation may arise naturally.

Who designed this web site and who runs it?

Ektoplazm is designed and maintained by Basilisk (that’s me) and powered by a heavily customized version of WordPress.

Are you available for freelance design work?

Possibly, although my schedule is generally very busy. I am mainly interested in working on album covers (CD and vinyl), event promotion (fliers and banners), logos, adverts, and other such projects. My work is unique and distinctive, and my rates are quite reasonable. Visit my gallery for a small portfolio of various pieces I have worked on in the last few years.

At this time I am unlikely to be available for any sort of web design work unless gobs of money are involved.
