1999 was a year of profound change. The classic Goa trance sound had gone out of fashion and many of the old school acts were searching for a new direction. It was a very experimental time fraught with considerable pre-millennial uncertainty (as Koxbox’s The Great Unknown would suggest). The Atomic Records style briefly came into vogue, Infected Mushroom made their first big splash, and TIP toppled and turned into TIP.World. Several classic labels such as Symbiosis and Matsuri shut down or began to experience troubles due to non-payment by distribution companies or a switch in artistic interests. Other monumental imprints such as Spiral Trax and 3D Vision took their first baby steps toward greatness.

Shakta – The Enlightened Ape?
Strongly disagree with Transient 7, though all tracks are quite above average I think there’s nothing essental in it. Basically it is a good compilation of good tracks by veteran artists improving their sound, but nothing defining IMO.
Same goes for Equator – most of it sounds dated compared to the rest above.
