2009 has been an interesting year for psytrance. With the rise of digital media the full-length album format is losing ground to EPs and single tracks, particularly with progressive and techno. For this reason my recommendations moving forward are likely to be biased in favour of certain styles, namely new school Goa trance, full-on, darkpsy, and downtempo. As always, your suggestions are welcome in the comments as I don’t get a chance to listen to everything that comes out!

I think Merr0w album is cool because it is actually goa…
this cd compared to other goa releases (especially made by suntrip, ie opus iridium last year which is a listed
in this selection) is below average..
For those who are hooked to full-on, getting a goa cd is like getting a timed bomb inside the head, hehehehehe
Delirious Noon is like Digicult, but far more sofisticated….Good Sounding, great FX, and a little taste for complexe
melodies which make this my favorite cd this year so far..
I also liked the inly and the bottom of the jewel case

Surely you must be joking.
Can’t see why you found a spot for run-off-the-mill, predictable and boring Fearsome Engine, but failed to mention Cosmosis’ CD…
Also I’d propose to consider: new Sienis, Hedonix, Ozmali, Terrafractyl and Arsenic – most of them are not widely recognised, but that often is the case with brilliant albums, which are not easily accessible and quickly digestible, but instead present more thought-through and mature approach to music.

I can’t see the newest shpongle album, VA forest frequencies and the Pronton Kinoun Album (hey home made, very well done)
I would add Aquafur – Fuzzy emotions and E-Mantra – Arcana (Previews available at psychop, but I’m not sure if you can buy a PHYSICAL copy yet)
as for the latest IM, it deserves a number 1 in the top 10 most HORRIBLE albums of ALL TIME
(No hard-feelings, great producers look at I’m the supervisors)

Hmmm, I’ve listened to Goa Gil Kali Yuga. There is some insane darkpsy on it that deserves attention.
Sienis – Seriously Unserious is awesome too, should be in this list, rather experimental with an eirie finnish sound, Yggdrasound like style…
Gorump Peyya’s latest album is pretty good.
VA Sun blitz and Va full service by blitz records are more than noteworthy.
I agree with Arsenic as well, unique album.
on second thought i must say that full service is not a standout album.
Pretty skimpy year on CD releases. But despite that I have added more music then ever to my collection. Thanks Ektoplazm.
Intermezzo Extended is just about the best Goa I’ve ever heard. Can anyone point me in a similar direction?

Hell yeah, Dusty Kid’s album rocks. Could really use some of that minimal/prog/techno/trance music that blew everyone away with the Eclipse mix on the list. Also this page is the source that I first found out that Union Jack made a new album. So work not wasted, thanks.
