DJ Basilisk’s Essential Selections: The Early Years
The Early Years 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 Top Ten Hall of Fame
From the early years, a few selections to bring back the memories of a time before “Goa trance” made its mark on the world. There are a lot of good songs from this period that are not listed here. CD compilations released in later years incorporate virtually all of the important vinyl-only tracks from this time.
Several releases containing music written in the early years did not hit the market until later: Blue Planet Corporation – A Blueprint For Survival, Eat Static – Alien Artifacts, Eat Static – Prepare Your Spirit, The Alien E.P.s, Masaray – Cosmic Trancer, Planet B.E.N. – Trippy Future Garden, SFX – The Unreleased Tracks (89-94).
Given that there is a lot of interest in the history of the movement here are a few more early releases worth looking into (although, honestly, they aren’t all good): Akasha – Beings From Another World / Ace Of Wands, Electric Universe – Solar Energy EP, Electrotete – Shark / Alcatraz, Etnica – The EP, Green Nuns Of The Revolution – Whirling Dervish EP, Har-El Prussky – Pagan Moon Child, Jungle High – Jungle High, Juno Reactor – Luciana, Koxbox – Acid Vol. 3 / Birdy, K.U.R.O. – Japan EP, Mindfield – Mandarin EP, Prana – The Genesis EP, Prana – The Indigo EP, Rise – The Single, Taiyo – Tranzen EP, Third Eye – Ancient Future, Third Eye – Dance Of Creation, V/A – Feed Your Head 1, V/A – Gaia 7 + 8, V/A – Psy-Harmonics Volume 1, V/A – Trance Mix 1.
If you’re really curious about these old relics I suggest scanning Youtube for project names and track titles.

Completely agree, excellent selection for “the early years” :)
maybe i would add the first ever juno reactor track : jungle high – jungle high, there is an ep on logic records from 1992
Orbital ? I will try to get that album if that’s true.
I don’t think that Jungle High has a Goa feel, but considering it’s from 1992 deserves some credit. Talking about Juno their High Energy Protons single comes in mind.
The most essential relase of them all is missing. The one that set the bar for all the rest to come. The Overlords “Sundown”

I would like to highly suggest: Mystic force-Frontier. Which is a very good acid trance release, which in particular was first released on psy-harmonics which is now a very good psy (and before that goa) label. Certainly deserves a place if the brown album is here.
Juno Reactor singles like Laughing Gas and High Energy Protons are covered by the inclusion of Transmissions. I added Sundown, however–it wasn’t included anywhere else. I also added a bunch of other oldies like Behind The Eye 1, Ritual Of Life, and Organised Noise.
What about “LDC – Die schwarze Zone”?

ok, so not sure about this one, given the scope of your project (releases), but it seems worth noting the oakenfold goa essential mix of ’94. not a “release” really, but a massive introduction of psy to a larger audience.
i know the psy community can shun “mainstream”, but oakenfold did a solid for psy…broadening its appeal way early on–way before he started remixing brittany murphy (sigh, and tear).
futurelovebeats ahead!
Hey, love this site. I am in Australia and grew up on the Christchurch New Zealand rave scene. Definitly nice to see Behind the Eye Vol 1 here. What a great album. Set the tone for ancient moods in modern music I feel. And Order Odinata with LSD,…what a breakthrough. Still sounds amazing. Top job! :)
Astralasia – the politics of Ecstasy (1992)>….
Old skool Goa with a touch of ambient, well produced ,
