Tron Sepia – Weird Fishes & Other Stories
01 - Flange (70 BPM)
02 - Factory (70 BPM)
03 - Cuttlefish (65 BPM)
04 - Abyss (70 BPM)
05 - Factory (Video Edit) (70 BPM)
06 - Abyss (VIP) (70 BPM)

With 2012 came many prophecies but none seemed more apparent than the psychedelic success enjoyed by Canadian dubstep masters Tron Sepia (Eric Laufer & Mirek Hamet). Weird Fishes & Other Stories is their highly anticipated debut on Fish ‘n Trips Records, offering a convergence in styles best described as cinematic dubstep-influenced psychedelic wobble music. Not easily caught, but high in psychoactive properties, these “weird fishes” contain huge bass lines, tight beats, and etherial female vocals that will transport the listener to other states of consciousness. Featuring vocals by Gabrielle Laufer, violin by Laurent E. Milo, and artwork by Melodies Visuelles.

Really loving this sound!!! Glad you posted this Basilisk, and thanks for the awesome tunes Tron Sepia, keep ’em coming!

  • Astronaut585 says:

Sounded tight on the first track. Got my attention. Then ‘Factory’ blew me away. great blend of glitch and melody and solid rhythm work!

  • William says:

    Really great work!!!
    nice trip!!!!

  • Nanobrainz says:

    It made me wet :)

  • Cristiano says:

High Quality Psy-Step for my ears!! Thanks a lot!!!

  • Rabbitfrog says:

    Cool stuff.

Was it actually recorded at 70 BPM? Usually dubstep goes at 140 BPM even though the kick skips a beat which makes it sound way slower.

  • S.E.T.H says:

^^It won’t matter bro^^ throw it in the mix. 1/2 step, 1/2 time….Can’t hear any kicks missing myself. I’ve played this at crazy tempo variations and even pitch / time stretched it to fit in sections at 146. Give it a go, makes for intense breakdown and buildup material too.

  • Rojo says:

Nothing short of brilliant, and that’s coming from someone who dislikes most dubstep-like music.

  • Darth Phader says:

Marvellous! Very enjoyable (and talented!) compositions here, recommended and fed this one forward allready!

  • Numanoid says:

Thanks for sharing. But would appreciate if sleeve could be downloaded separately, it’s almost 50MB! I’m interested in music not CD artwork.

  • Tron Sepia says:

Hey all! We’re very stocked to have our release on Ektoplazm!! Thanks for the great response

@RabbitFrog – Tracks where indeed produced at 140 (except Cuttlefish @130)

@Numanoid – yes, you have a point there. It’s probably too late too change anything now but we’ll keep it in mind for our next release

  • Nicorai says:

    This Album is really great!
I can´t believe its not produced by me, you use same kind of style even a lot more efficient than i did!

  • Fleshman says:

Hey Tron Sepia, this was amazing stuff and Flange reminded me a lot of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, check out the director’s cut trailer because it’s awesome and I think your music reflects futuristic/science fiction and deep thought provoking philosophy. Probably some of the best music i heard this year, I’m so glad I found it! Thank you!

  • @SpaceRabb1t says:

OHMYGOD! I love this album so hard!! Amazing melodies, wonderful compositions!!

  • gentlemen, you have released something truly awesome. maybe one day we’ll do something together. keep up the hotness.

  • Keltamar says:

Hello ^^ I love the sound of Abyss! The other tracks are also good, keeps me stomping and my mind floating around. I’d like to donate a € or two =) PS. I don’t use drugs while I listen to your music but it rly makes me feel like flying, falling and diving… awsome!

  • Rabbitfrog says:

@ SETH, The reason I was asking is that because the tempo of the track would alter the pitch of the other instruments in the recording, that’s what makes dubstep sound so fast and slow at the same time. The beats skip a beat but the bass wobbles at 140 bpm which sounds fast. I was curious as this is a new sound to me, it’s possible to program it at 70 bpms but then the LFO on the wobble bass would have a different rate in programming. I was curious to try it out myself. Of course there are no rules and no limits.

    Thanks guys.

  • Basilisk says:

I should probably jump in and mention that this release was submitted with BPMs in the 140 range. I tend to halve anything that most trance listeners would interpret as “downtempo”, but perhaps this is confusing for some?

Either way, blinding release… I’m glad to host some hot Canadian electronica :)

  • S.E.T.H says:

@rabbit frog. You are right. Overall myself and many other listeners have been deeply moved by this release. I am so glad to have had the opportunity to work closely with Tron Sepia. Together we are all enjoying and learning from this EP.

  • Tron Sepia says:

@Basilisk, we are very honored to even be here. We are very happy and excited that you guys are enjoying this – your feedback inspires us to move forward into our bass quest and epic journey into psychedellia. props to @S.E.T.H / Fish ‘n Trips for the release, thank you!

@Keltamar – thank you for the kind words, glad your enjoying it as much as we had fun making this! Keep your € for the time beeing, but share it to the world :)

  • Nymphomania says:

This stuff is good, thought out and complex tracks, though I don’t like some of tinny digital ring mod sounds on the bass, and I could’ve done without the last two remix tracks, they aren’t much different from the originals.

  • immaru says:

    thank .. apriciate ! ***onlyLOVE***

  • Dario says:

Cool! Nice sounds and mood!! : ) thanks!

  • robert says:

Alot of the 70 bpm’s I have listened to I really didn’t like. However the quality, tones, and artfull creativity is here
    and I really enjoyed it.Maybe I should listen to more 70 bpm’s.

  • david says:

I love both versions of “Factory”. Must’ve listed to them 20 times in the last few days. Great music. Thanks for the cc-by-nc-sa license too!

  • Mallory says:

Wow, you’ve come a long way since last year! Can’t wait for you’r nest tracks. It’s ecclectic :)

  • Mat says:

wow! what an epic album, I had no idea was I was in for but this is sensory bliss, thank you Tron Sepia and Ektoplazm !!!

  • psyentifica says:

nice basslines and chill flow, flange is tops.

  • Moontra says:

Soooo chill. I’m inspired to start learning dubstep production just so I can make sounds like this.

  • xoomi says:

I think, in the grand scheme of things, this music may have cancelled out most of the negative effects of the Skrillex era :p

Dubstep is a genre that deserves more thought and more subtlety than it currently seems to enjoy. Thank goodness for producers like this.

  • Tron Sepia says:

    hello there!!
Don’t know if anyone still comes around here but here’s an awesome music video for Factory we’ve just released!!

Superbe album, excellente mixture des genres. Très inspirant pour la création. Excellent vidéo de danse post-apocalyptique également.

A+++. no need to explain, feel the bass dudes

  • Keamia says:

i’m sooo in love with the first track! big thanks to the artist and the people who got it all together :-)
    have a great 2013….

  • Gad Zeus says:

    Thank you for the Abyss.

  • Cynos says:

These tracks make me feel I’m under the sea :)

  • soma_junkie says:

    Absolutely love “Flange”.

  • Jeffers says:

@ basilisk this is indeed a blinding release, but I don’t understand what you mean when you say it was submitted at one bpm and then you adjusted it to another. Sorry if that’s a stupid question, I’m getting on a bit. :0)

  • Basilisk says:

140 BPM = 70 BPM. I could have written either… but the convention around here is to use the lower of the two values for downtempo and related styles. It’s all the same though.

  • You sick bastards says:

A cuttlefish is not a weird fish, it’s a mollusque. And you are sick bastards for making fun of it.
