02/06/22 :: Om Festival 2002 Sunday Morning Set
Landing this gig was a dream. I had immersed myself in the Om community back in 2002, and it was a real honour to be invited to play at the dub.beautiful stage that year. It was a last minute fix, after a widespread complaints regarding the lack of a psytrance stage that year. Subsonic Chronic and I ended up playing, as well as Hugh Sharpe (up from NYC). I had a set on Friday night which is a bit of a jumble, and come Sunday morning, shared this set of gorgeous morning tunes with the thinning crowd. The power died somewhere into the set (likely between tracks that don’t seem like they match, but which?) and no one knew how to get it running again. I was told the generator was full of gas and working fine, so it must be a fuse. 15 minutes later, after checking everything I could possibly think of (with the assistance of several party people eager for more beats) we find out that, oh, haha, the guy who was in charge of the generator was a bit high, and, wouldn’t you know it, had run out of gas. After getting charged up again, I was off, unleashing some beautiful tunes for the sunny house of morning. There are two tracks listed below where I wrote “Acetate” in as the label; in fact, I pressed these two tracks to a dub plate as I had not yet felt the allure of mixing on CD. The damn thing cost me slightly more than $100 and I printed it up solely to share those songs with the Sunday morning audience at this festival. It was a bit of a romantic gesture, and I like to think that it was well-received.

This event was held in the forest behind the Ontario Science Center. The cops never found us. I played darker stuff, and it flowed fairly well. I still remember Gamma Goblins receiving a very strong reaction from the crowd, many of whom had never heard much in the way of psytrance.

01/08/11 :: Lost Focus Retrieval Project
Ah, the first set I ever wrote down. I was invited by some friends to play a small outdoor event they were holding out west of the city. As it turns out, the location was perched up on the Niagara Escarpment along the Bruce Trail, with a beautiful view of the Golden Horseshoe between the swaying trees. The weather was gorgeous, and the sky was lighting up as well; it was one night before the peak of the Perseid meteor shower! So, picture this: a young and eager Basilisk, out to play one of his very first gigs, throwing down classic after classic, while meteors whiz by overhead. I can still look back at this set and say to myself, “yes, this is the one that made all the others possible…”
