Endora – Joy EP
A1 :: Joy
B1 :: Macrosoopix
B2 :: Fusionium

Endora is one of several collaborations between Boris Blenn (Electric Universe) and Andreas Karsten Pfeiffer (DJ Sangeet), but one of the very few where an actual project name was chosen. Sangeet customarily picked up secondary production credits, as with Rainbow Spirit’s Sirius Shuttle single and several songs from the Stardiver album. In other words, there is little doubt that Blenn is behind most of what is heard on this record. The incredibly smooth analog flow heard on this record will be immediately recognized by anyone familiar with his work.

Joy was featured on many CD compilations back in the day, so most old school fans are probably familiar with it already. The setup is very straight-forward, combining acidic Goa melodies, trance kicks, and a prominent set of well-known breakbeat loops. There is nothing strange, unusual, or exceptional about the approach, but this song has still managed to become a classic. I attribute its long-lasting appeal more to the quality of manufacture than the outlandishness of the ideas expressed within.

Macrosoopix sounds slightly less like Electric Universe than the others, so Sangeet may have played more a role in its production. The opening track on the B-side is relatively short at around six minutes in length, but it sure makes up for lost time! The beats are pumping and the energy level is high as the producers unleash wave after wave of intense cosmic melodies. It should be of special interest to vinyl buyers, as this song was never released on CD!

Fusionium is a luscious piece of downtempo trance similar to Electric Universe’s Alien Encounter (Part 1) or Visiting Venus. Years later, Boris would take on the name Galaxy when producing music of this nature. After opening with soothing atmospheric sounds, light breakbeat rhythms enter, and the song soon carries out its cerebral mission. There is a simple purity about this relaxing song that I have always found to be very enticing. Fusionium nicely rounds out the single.

Endora’s Joy EP is a great vinyl single from the golden age of Goa trance. Consider it essential for any old school collection.
