Karmic Energies - Psychosis / No Compromise

B :: No Compromise
Karmic Energies is a very early effort from the French group Spies, who were most known for their distinctive fusion of industrial, psytrance, and techno in the late-nineties. This vinyl record has very nearly been lost in time—it was never particularly popular, or even well-known. Released on Organic Records in the UK, it very nearly slipped by my radar, but I caught it time!
Psychosis is rough and ready for action—a dark, stomping track loaded with creepy hints of melody and frantic noises. The main breakdown is key—menacing guitars catalyze a strong build-up, pushing the song into the storming finale. In some ways, the approach is not unlike that of Battle of the Future Buddhas, Ka-Sol, and the rest of the Uppsala producers working around the turn of the millennium.
No Compromise opens to the sinister sound of drums rattling like bones in a box. Depraved bass stabs cruise in the nether frequencies as an extreme high-end melody sweeps to the fore. With samples proclaiming “you are condemned” it makes for one hell of an unholy tune. This dark masterpiece can also be heard on Yohimbe’s Polarity mix.
Even though this hidden gem is mainly for collectors and fanatics, it is far more interesting than most obscure rarities. Anyone who enjoys Xenomorph’s early productions and the aforementioned Swedish forest maestroes should try tracking this down.
