I think that's a little too MUCH of a Black-or-White statement your making there... taking drugs at a party is like eating pop-corn while your watching a movie...if you feel like it, it just adds to the fun... You can interpret trance in a thousand thousand different wayz, and that's what makes it better than other music... it heals the mind AND the body, whereas all the other kinds of music that come to my mind affect one OR the other. There is this track called 'Floating Point' on the Trance, Dance and Magic Plants CD. It's REALLY good and gets away with being over 10 minutes long 'cos it is a very well created piece of psychedlia. I have always loved it. But, last week my partner and I smoked some Northern Lights and had sex while this tune was playing and it sounded COMPLETELY different and UTTERLY gorgeous. That is the beauty of psy trance; wicked without drugs, exceptional, surprising and sometimes overwhelming with. Perhaps psytrance is a microcosm of life. If the future lies in breaks, how come breaks have been around since the early 90's and isn't it elitist to say that the future belongs to just one genre? Obviously the unintelligent intolerants above haven't heard trance with breaks in it. Besides there's more fights in a club playing breaks than in one that plays psychedelic trance. In the UK anyway. I was listening to breaks while taking LSD in the early 90's. I got into psy-trance cuz it is way more psychedelic and is more acid music than pill music. Besides D'n'B and jungle seems more about what trainers/sneakers you wear and what designer sports clothes you have on. The future lies in an almagamation of all genres. i wish goa haters would realize that there is something for everyone in the psychedelic music scene. the key elements that make psy-trance so incredible can be aplied to any other genre of music. the psychedelic edge can make the cheesest music sound good. even that hokey gothic/industial stuf sounds great when tweaked by the likes of tim schuldt,dino psaras,semsis etc. i used to like a lot of drum'n'bass until it got so stagnat. i always wondered if d'n'b would work its way into psytrance. now its everywhere. digitalis is the best atempt so far. before anything i loved ambient musicespecialy the orb. now Alex Patterson has an ambient mix for Return to the Source. it all seems to come together with this scene. no stone left unturned. at the moment i am trying to organize a musical act that would encorporate psytrance,death-metal,hip-hop,classical,dub,jungle,jazz,ambient,tribal, and ethnic music from all over the world. possibilities are endless. I like to call it Teckno Trance but thats just me. we can see that this style musci is everywhere sweden, australia, france Uk....the list would go on for ever. its not about choosing just one style of music and going yep this is the best nothing else is as good as this. the best music which i hope to see and be a part of is a culmination of lots of styles. i personally dig psy-trance but i appreciate many genres which co-exist. a new generation is coming through now, im still in my teens, yet am fortunate enough to be able to hangout with those who pioneered this music in my area. you can hear the difference. we are still moving forward and super sounds are still be created, the possibilities are endless. My first party was WEMF in Ontario and it was my first party and had such a great time that I went to my second party in Toronto at Acsension. Both parties were mainly Trance oriented and I fell in love with it. At first, hearing Trance at friends houses and such, I thought it was rather gay and cheezy. But when I hit those parties and saw Trance in it's truest form, my mentality totally changed and it became my favourite genre. I found it to personally be the best to dance to after seeing numerous liquid dancers and Jungle dancers dance to it. I produce a lot of Progressive House tracks which I feel that House is evolving into many other genres, but me and a partner are bent on spinning Trance together and in '01. We're bookin' it up to T.O. Canada and gonna make our mark, so get ready to Fuckin' Dance!!!!!!!!!!!!

What music I listen to depends on my mood - I love all music; trance, techno, hard house and drum'n'bass. Personally, I prefer drum'n'bass so if I want to lose it, I'll go dance to drum'n'bass all night. If I want more of an experience I'll go to a trance club and let my mind wander. Also, I don't have any time for people who preach about drugs... If you haven't tried it then how do you know what you are talking about. Nowadays, I club without drugs and when I hear an amazing sound, my body still tingles!

Almost everyone has a similar feeling or way to interpret this wonderful collage of synthesizers, beats, and energy. I was hooked ever since I heard it. I think trance is the best thing that ever happened to me. I love the music and I love the feeling that takes over me when I'm listening to it. I can be feeling like shit and I put on some trance and it takes me away. Sometimes when I listen to a really good track I get the feeling to scream like we all do at the parties when a song is getting into the climax. It's great I just scream from impulse. I love goa parties and I go to them often and I have gone straight and on something and both experiences are great. I don't think that because you take a drug you must not like the music, that's bullshit. I love the music and when I take something all it does is enhance the whole experience to a different level that is more than words can explain and I think everybody will agree with me on that. I also agree that the parties are getting better and better and matching up to the standard of such amazing music. It's not even only about the music the people into trance are different and open minded and extremely nice. I love everything about trance, how it's changing everything, how people are taking to it, and what it does to me when I listen to it.

I say this......What you ppl need is a good speeding session. Only then will you realise yourself as existing and interacting in a game of life so to speak. A game cannot be reversed, but it can be altered. After doing it a lot of times, you realise a very important thing. It's what you call a natural high, which far surpasses any drug. I haven't really heard much goa/psychadelic trance until recently, I've been deeply into the sounds of freeform hardcore (also known as trance-core) and uk old skool scince I was about 12....went to my first rave at 15, (I'm 16 now) and I have been experimenting with different styles because I like to keep an open mind.....and goa trance is definately a very beutiful and spiritual type of music, but to say it is better than others is wrong. Until everyone has understood and experienced every type of rave music in it's proper environment, understood it's roots and it's history I think that it is impossible to judge one style over another, after all, it's all about the same vibe isn't it?

Right, Im quiet new to this, but experienced a psy-trance/techno event last night and thought up this:"Other" dance music has a destination "level" or "emotion". For example, in the UK. Cheesy house would be written for people to be "Happy" and Gabba would be written for people get pleasure through a violent kickdrum. Its the same for Drugs:You take Ecstasy to feel "Euphoric" or "Warm" Psy-Trance and Acid are different. Neither are there to give you an already known state of feeling. I noticed that Psy-Trance puts you on a level of whatever you choose your mind to be on. When listening to Psy-Trance at a rave, (neally) everyone is on the same level, and thus a collective "level" has been created. Unique everytime.I guess the music is kind of like an uncoloured picture. It's given to you and you can colour it in how you wish. Arghh. Mad.... I dont know :)

I myself listen to trance. I love it! I find that when I'm rolling on XTC it's just so much better. You actually "feel" the music. You feel every little sound run through your body like waves on the beach. It's so amazing. As for deaths from XTC... People that die are stupid. There are rules you have to follow. 1)drink enough water or juice.. 2)don't dance yourself to death..3) It's not a good idea to candy-flip. If you just follow these rules... you wont die. I've never danced while on XTC. I just sit and listen to the music and float on the clouds. I think that trance is way better when you're on XTC because it makes you appreciate music more.

I think... psy trance is what you make of it. It can be music that makes you dance without self-conscciousness, it can be something to chill to. It can be something more: it can unite you with other appreciaters, help explore your spirituality and the meaning of your existence, help you understand what motivates you and to comprehend the subliminal, develop tolerations for others types of people, music , and everything. The moral of the story is trance is a springboard, if you are open minded and positive it can be everything, and visa-versa. I think...that psychedelic trance of all varieties is absolutely amazing. I'm a self confessed trance purist and thus I believe that trance is the best form of music in this galaxy or the next. During '95 my friend Liam used to compile cassettes of Goa trance for me:- T.I.P., Platipus, Phantasm, Dragonfly etc. Ooohh nice!! Ilove both the music and its associated culture. It's not just a style of music, it's a new way of thinking, it's a way of life. P.L.U.R. I went to my first 1,000 plus party in London at Club UK in early December '95 & it was an experience that changed my life. For the first time ever I danced like a maniac for 8 hours solidly with just a few short interludes for refreshment. I loved every minute of it!! At the end of the night I was flyered for some more underground events such as Escape From Samsara, R.T.T.S.,Science Fiction and Otherworld - and so began my collection of psychedelic artwork on both flyers and posters. The first Goa party that I went to was an Escape From Samsara at Bagleys nr King's Cross. As soon as I got into the party I bought 4 blotters & thought to myself,"Oh well, it's only blotters....." and I promptly double dropped 2 of them. Oh boy, did I have a mind blowing experience. I luv LSD it's f**King fabulous!! Where I live it's hard to get good LSD so doing 2 was quite an intense trip for me. Trance parties are just so far removed from anything going on in Hicksville and the experience is unlike any other I'd ever had; so I turned on, tuned in and dropped out! Iwas 26/27 when I first discovered trance & today I'm 33. Some people live their whole lives without ever having experienced the things that I've seen and done. At the late age of 27 I discovered my reason to live, to breath and my motivation to move onwards & upwards. I've always found trance music very inspiring and I still do. In August '96 I bought my first Goa CD - 'Platipus Records Volume 1' by various artists. I had taken my first step on a voyage of musical discovery that is still on going. I met my ex-boyfriend at a local party in March '97 and I stopped going out evrey weekend; instead during the summer of '97 I went to my first international techno festival in Normandie in France. Outdoor festivals are much better than indoor parties! The 'Out There' festival wasn't that brilliant as far as festies go but I loved it as the atmosphere of the carnival people was electric even if the music wasn't that good. Over the next couple of years I did an Ascension party in Japan, Blue Moon in Taiwan, Voov in Germany, Plastik Park in Denmark and Boom! in Portugal. I wish that I was rich so that I could devote the rest of my life to going to lots of groovy feativals around the globe. I've definattely caught the travel bug!! If I were rich then I'd just become another over consumer which is bad. If you don't consume then it f**ks the whole system up so the answer must be don't consume. (except for buying new CDs. Fresh music is essential to life itself). 2 Years ago I split up with my ex and it took me a while to get back on my feet. I got a bit down as I hadn't been to a good party for ages. Then about 2 months ago I went to a good little party at the Viaduct Club in Vauxhall, london. It wsa organised by Karma and I really enjoyed myself. I needed to let my hair down & party hard and it did me the world of good. Last month I went to a Karroo party at the same venue and it was excellent. It's unusual for an underground venue to have loo roll in all of the toilets - helped to make my night!! On New Year's Eve I'm planning to go to Astral Phoenix's - 'Dream Theatre' an the EQ warehouse in Hackney Wick. I haven't bought tickets yet nor sorted out the finer details but I'm determined to go as the flyer makes it sound pretty damn good with live PAs from Cosmosis and Space Safari both of whom I like. I think...in the ongoing discussion as to whether to mix or not mix, I say,"Don't Mix". A good track should have a beggining, a middle and an end. The tune should keep the listener fully stimulated for the full length of the track even if it's over 10 minutes long. Each track should be a whole in itself or at least that's what I think...but I'm just a rural gal from the S. coast of england so like what do I know about anything?!! In the argument as to what to play in the second room at a psy-trance party then I believe in trance,trance and more trance! I find it rather irritating when I go to a TRANCE party and I hear break-beats and Dub being played in the second room. If I want to listen to break-beats then I'll go to a D'n'B party and if i want to hear Dub then I'll go to a reggae night. I go to TRANCE PARTIES to hear TRANCE MUSIC. Ther are so many forms of trance music to choose from:- Goa, Psy, Tribal, Techno, Ambiedelic and mutant spawn offspring of trance mixed together with other forms of music - where will it all end? It's my belief that the diversity of trance on offer means that there's no reason to play anything but TRANCE at a TRANCE Party. Different kinds of trance but definately TRANCE!! I do listen to a diverse range of music at home but as you can easily guess my first love is trance. I like Hallucinogen to X-Dream, Koxbox to Chi-A.D., Asura to Space Safari - there's just too much stuff being released by new small labels for normal people to be able to keep abreast of what's going on globally. The only way that you could keep up is if you are a world famous DJ who gets sent free promo copies of stuff otherwise it becomes a very expensive habit - I've just put in an order at Chaos Unlimited for over £300 worth of CDs and I was holding back on all the stuuf I'd like to listen to. I LOVE PSYCHEDELIC TRANCE! Well I sure the fuck do not know what Goa Trance is, never even heard such retarted name. But I do enjoy techno\trance\breaks\jungle. People don't understand, I can't see how people can dislike it. How is it better? Can we even define why it's better? That's the whole mystery of trance. It is every element in it's purest form. I have never heard such beautiful music. It is the next best thing, and if people would learn to accept this life we're given I think we would come to realize this is "music" how it should be. A christian friend of mine once said that in heaven the music never gets boring, it's exactly what you want to hear. What kind of music do you think this is? Why are angels so happy? I think it's trance, could I be right or could I be wrong? You got to understand my background, I started listening to Industrial (VERY HARDCORE into it) about 6 years ago, this did not take my mind on a journey it wanted to be on. I was very affected by the music, broken by it if you will. I got into trance less than a year ago and I have already turned my collection around. I went from liking Suicide Commando to liking Cosmosis, Infected Mushroom, Tiesto (All sorts of trance, not just GOA). And it has changed me in a *good* way. I live in a remote section of the US so I miss out on everything. No party scene. Just me in my own world. Do not disturb me in my trance state. I used to think people who danced were idiots. I was the idiot to think this. What a truly uplifting type of music, and wow is there anything bad about it? I have a hard time finding a song I don't like. Someone said something about drugs somewhere around here. I like drugs, a lot. Drugs > Trance > Life ... i'm no addict by any means. I just LOVE how they make me feel (Manic Depressant my whole life). No party scene makes it hard though to find new trance. My goal in life is to goto a psytrance party, I'm sure some of you people do this every week and probably don't find it that fun. Well, consider yourself lucky. There are hundreds of universes of intelligent energy, inside your body - and I'm sure one of them is trance. I think...good well produced and arranged psy trance is the language of the soul. You can feel it build nuron connections as thoughts and experience reach new levels and terretory. Ever had that thing where the music interperets its self through your body. All you have to do is relax and let it take course. 13 hours non stop I was had, no tiredness, just a pure connection between physical and profound. What also tends to make it special is the use of almost sacred beats - not new in any way, but as inherent as the earth. Think native amaricans, african tribes, whaatever. I remember taking a club DJ friend to his first outdoor trance bash. A bit of a "garage, D n B and disco house" addict. I have never seen any one personality change so instantly. His face as we approached the thunderous rolls, utter disbelief at such a mystical spot - flouro, trees and sound. I didnt see him for days and couldn`t get a proper sentence out of him for another week. Its almost like therapy. Mush need not apply.
